Reliability of joints in view of the process settings used in wave soldering

A solderjoint can be made within a given process window. One can rise the question what are the optimal conditions within that process window to create the best joints? In fact that is a good question. The answer is however not easy given for each individual joint. The reason is that the process window is mainly used to get joints of different designs soldered well into one operation. Even solderjoints with the same design can get different solder conditions due to layout effects that affect solder drainage conditions and so the dwell time in the solderwave.
