Some notes on dwell time in mainwave or smartwave

Is it possible to give detailed information on the relation between wave shapes and contact length?
Although it is a relevant question, a statement instead of using a simple formula can only answer it.
Of course we need a theoretical basis to start from, but there is more to soldering than contact length and conveyor speed to calculate the real dwell time
