How to Back Up an SPM Machine

SPM Backup:

If the machine software can still run then you can use the Automatic Backup Utility within the software.  Otherwise, you will have to follow the manual backup utility.

1) Create a backup disk, or manually back up the files.

2) Rename the SPM directory to SPM2.

3) Install the SPM software.

4) Restore from backup or manually copy files back to SPM directory.

Automatically Back up the Critical Files:

Change User Mode to Supervisor.

Backup:

Selecting Backup System from the Maintenance pull-down menu copies board files, system information and calibration information from the printer’s hard drive to a 3.5-inch 1.44MB IBM formatted floppy disk. The Backup System field is printer specific and cannot be interchanged with other printer or with other software versions. If a file is too large to store on a single disk, the system prompts you to install another disk until file storage is complete.

System Restore:

Selecting Restore System from the Maintenance pull-down menu copies board files, system information and calibration information from a 3.5 inch, 1.44MB backup floppy disk (from a previous backup operation) to the printer’s hard drive.

NOTE: Backup System and Restore System are specific to your printer and cannot be interchanged with other printers.

If this does not work then you can manually copy the files and folders below to a floppy drive.

Manually Back up Critical Files:

To manually copy files required, type the following at a dos prompt and press enter.

COPY <Source> <Destination>

For the <Source> enter the entire directory and file names below.

For the <Destination> enter A: for the floppy drive.

Source:

 Files:

C:\SPM\SPM.OPT

C:\SPM\SPMOPT.DEF

C:\SPM\CONFIG\CAL.000

 Folder:  C:\SPM\PARMS

The Parms directory contains your board files.

Once the files are backed up to to the floppy confirm that SPM.OPT and CAL.000 are intact be opening them up on a separate PC using a text editor.

Afterwards, copy back the files from the floppy.   When copying back you will enter the following for the source and destination.

COPY <Source> <Destination>

Source                         Destination

A:\SPM.OPT                 C:\SPM

A:\SPMOPT.DEF          C:\SPM

A:\CAL.000                   C:\SPM\CONFIG

A:\PARMS                    C:\SPM

Rename SPM Directory to SPM2

Typing the following command into a Dos Prompt:

MOVE C:\SPM C:\SPM2
